Our network has just been set up with an exchange server (v5.5) and can send mail ok, no mail comes in however, we have a cisco 3640 router set up for access to our isp. in the config it says on the dialer interface to the isp NAT Outside. Is there something else that needs to be set up to allow mail to be routed to the exchange server?

Thanks.

Hi, Zelandakh:

After you telnet into the server, what to do next?

Thanks,

techlow

You need to telnet into the SMTP port (25) on the server then you can attempt a normal conversation to see where it might be failing.
Once you connect on port 25 type HELO. The server should respond with its name and 250 OK.
Now type MAIL FROM:<sender name here>. The server should respond with"250 OK - mail from <sender name>.
Now type RCPT TO:<recipient name here>. The server should respond with "250 OK - Recipient <recipient name>
Now type DATA. The server should respond with "354 Send data. End with CRLF.CRLF"
Type any test message you want then, to end it, type a period on a line by itself and hit <ENTER>. The server should respond with "250 OK"
Now type QUIT. The server should respond with "221 closing connection"

Hope this helps.
