I have connected a small network (6 ws) to the internet through one modem in my exchange 2000 server machine.
when sending 'big' emails (1 mb) or a lot of emails the connection freezes, and nothing can be done except to restart the server. also during send and recieve operations no other simulteaneous actions can be undertaken (the machine's got 256 sdram). it is all going very very slow. I've read that default connection settings in exchange are made for broadband connections. however playing with these settings(max. number of in- and outbound connections, max number of messages and adjusting time-out values) doesn't seem to help or even bring changes.
I also read there's an option to automatically forward all the outgoing mail directly to the ISP, so the time consuming DNS reverse look up (i am not really good in that stuff)can be done on their behalf.
however, before i am going into this, i want to improve it without using bypass solutions, because i am quite sure that i should work better than it does now (praying for every email to go out and arrive without having to restart the server!). what is wrong?
There;s one more question in this context: how can i be sure an email has been sent? (without calling te recipient of course). How do these query's in the system manager work?
