I'm trying to send an email w/MS Ech 2k3 and I'm getting this error message:
"#5.5.0 smtp;553 sorry, relaying denied from your location <ip address> (#5.7.1)"
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks for your help.

Need some more info to go on.

Are you getting this while logged onto your LAN locally?

Need to know the login domain and the destination domain. Are they the same or different? Which server is reporting the relay error, the SBS2k3 or the destination?

How is your SMTP relay configured in Exchange?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Here's the settings: The organisation doesn't have any other computer acting as a relay between the echange and the isp's mail servers. They currently use the isp's webmail to access all their email. What they would like to do is to pull all thier mail to their sbs2k3 xchange server and have the individual outlok clients pull it from the xchange instead of the isp's webmail. They however would like to leave the webmail active as a failover just incase their server goes downmeaning that they do not want to change any of the mxrecords.
What settings do you have to change inorder for you the isp's server to act as a relay for the local server while not affecting any of the mx records settings? The isp has two mx records settings:

mx10: smtp.secureserver.net
mx50:mailstore1.secureserver.net

Do you have to use both of these or just one is enough for the whole preocedure. The cname settings I do not have currently with me but are also included in the information provided by the isp. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks,

You will need to configure the SBS POP3 Connector to pull the mail down to Exchange.

Then configure your Virtual SMTP Server to use the ISP server as a SmartHost. No other changes should be needed.

I hope you find this post helpful.

will these settings have anything to do with the smtp connector? right above the pop3 connector or this should be left alone. The virtual smtp smarthost will it be the ip address of the local machine or that of the isp's mail servers?

The SmartHost will be configured on the Virtual SMTP Server, not on the connector.

Use the IP of the ISP server. If you don't then your email won't resolve on an RDNS lookup and you will get blocked from AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail etc.

I hope you find this post helpful.

How will you configure the sbs2k3 xchange to pull down mail using the pop3 service from the service provider? I am a newbie with xchange and this seems to be giving me some problems. Any response will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Just open up the POP3 Connection Wizard and answer the questions. You will need the login ID and password for each user. From there you can link the POP account with your Exchange accounts.

I hope you find this post helpful.
