I've just installed Exchange 2003 in a small office. A few of the 7 users, who are all identical in permissions, rights, etc., keep getting the following prompt when they open Outlook 2003: "Exchange is in restore mode. Do you want to: Connect, Work Offline, Exit." Upon clicking on Connect, they go right into Outlook and everything works fine. But what is restore mode and why is it telling us this?

I would like help with is problem also. I can't seem to fiqure this one out.

Error loading error message

Could be an old email profile is being used against an information store that has been recovered, restored or imported. This occurs because the Outlook 2003 maintains more cached information about the database, and if you restore a previous database, or import it during a migration, you can get this message.

To resolve the problem, delete the existing mail profile and create a new one. The error message should go away.

I'm sorry I used the wrong word: it's "recovery mode" not restore mode. Does that make any difference to anybody? I'll look at the old email profile, but everybody had an old email profile. We were all using Outlook 2003 with our ISP hosting our email until we brought it in house with Exchange. Now only two of us gets this "recovery mode" prompt every time we open Outlook.

No problem, that's sort of what I figured you meant. At the very least you should try recreating the OST.

If you can connect past the prompt this solution should work.
