I am trying to restore a public folder database to a recovery server. I have met all the Microsoft naming requirements. The software on both the recovery server and the live server are the same; Windows 2000 SP3, Arcserve Exchange Agent with SP4 installed.

Prior to restoring, I dismount the public folder store on the recovery server, and check the "allow backup to overwrite database" checkbox. When performing the restore, I receive the following error message:

E8603 Failed to write to database. (DBNAME=First Storage Group\D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\pu1.edb, EC=Backup Agent Error -- (364) "Exchange Server Error. HrESERestoreAddDatabase failed. Dismount the database. Check Backup

During the restore process, arcserve shows a status of "stopping information store".

Any ideas?

TIA

Hi,
Are u restoring to a recovery on the same domain/forest as the production server??

what is the name of the production server...

Open the system manager on the recovery server
drill down to the public store and highlight it
press F2
verify if the display name of the public store has the name of the original server..

e.g publicstore.<servername>

if not... rename this to match the original server name

hope this helps

cheers

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

The three links all basically say the same thing; dismount the database you want to restore. And I have done that.

Have you tried to recycle the RPC service after dimounting the public folder store, since base on the error message arcserve still seeing the public store mounted

Hi wallst32, we are in the middle of doing some single mailbox restores at the moment in our test lab, did u manage to fix your issue with the public folder? The stopping information store during the restore is natural, as it's done the same thing on the restores we have done. Just out of interest is your recovery server a pdc in it's own domain, or is it a member so that you can rename it too become different exchange servers??

static - The recovery server is a PDC in it's own domain.

The public folders are still not "restoring", even though the Arcserve progess/status indicates that it is, as the MB count increases until it reaches the full size of the IS.

wallst32, are you running a mix environment?

static - Our W2K AD domain is native. Exchange 2000 is not set to native, although there are no Exchange 5.5 servers. Just two E2K in FE/BE.
