Hello,

I'm relatively new to exchange 2007 and have an odd quirk at one site. Here's the background:

2 AD servers
Global Catalog = FP02
Second DC = EXCH02
Exchange 2007 server = EXCH02

When we setup the Outlook clients to connect to the exchange server, if we enter "exch02" for the server name, it won't recognize the server or allow us to do "check names". If we enter "fp02" into the server name field, everything works fine, and the client connects to exchange. When we save the settings and come back into the settings, the server is set to "exch02".

Is this normal behavior, or is something out of whack on our network? If there is something out of whack, any ideas what that could be?

Wow...you put Exchange on a DC?

Check DNS, make sure it's pointing to right servers and that the DNS server is pointing to itself.

I inherited a DC with Exchange on it! From what the old IT guy said, is they only had 2 servers, and he wanted a backup DC, so he promoted the exchange server.

As far as I can tell, FP02 is setup as the primary DNS server and EXCH02 is the secondary DNS. On FP02, the primary DNS server is set to FP02 and secondary is EXCH02.

On the Exchange server, FP02 is the primary DNS and EXCH02 is the secondary. Do I need to swap those?

If they are both DNS servers, then have both of them only point to themselves.

Was exchange server Installed as an authoritative server?

Do not pray to have an easier life, pray to be a stronger man!!!
