Exchange Internet Mail Service and Information Store shut down

I have had intermittent problems with my Exchange 5.5 server. The information store will shut down and consequently the Event Service and Internet Mail Service will shut down as well. Microsoft recommends deleting any transaction logs have log generation numbers equal to or greater than the Ebd.log file. I didn't have any. Another possible fix recommended by Microsoft is edit the registry by setting the Maximum numbers of thread to 20 because sometimes it changes when you run performance optimizer, however, mine didn't change.

Anyone experiencing similar problems? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
