I manage an exchange server amongst other duties. I have been asked to forward mail that is coming into our exchange server to an email address at hotmail.com, etc.

I thought this could be handled by the out of office assistant on the users pc. This doesnt work well as it sends an outof office reply to the sender(which I dont want) and in my test would not forward to another address.

I also tried using the settings for another recipient directly from the exchange mananger but this will only
allow me to forward to clients on our internal email list.
So I read on the forums here that it would be wise to create a custom recipient.

How do I create a custom recipient ? Plus I dont want anyone internally to see the custom recipient or be able to email them. If our users want to email everyone internally they paste the whole list into the "TO" area (broadcast to everyone in the office). They would ALWAYS inadvertently send a message to this custom recipient.

So I would have to make the "custom recipient" invisible so to speak. I guess I would then put this custom recipeint in the forward to box through the exchange dialog boxes.

Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance. Tom

You are on the right track. Create the Custom Recipient with the Hotmail address or which ever on applies. Link it as you have already seen in the Delivery Options tab of the mailbox in Exchange Admin. After the Relay is established, double click the Custom Recip and click the Advanced tab. On the lower right of the window, you'll see a check box for hide from the address book. Poof - invisible.
One recommendation would be to create a seperate container in to create your Custom recipients. Makes it easier for administration...depending on the size of your Exchange site.
