EXCHANGE EMAIL & WEBMAIL SERVICE ON 2 DIFFERENT SERVERS
i have exchange 2k already running as a service for a number of domains for private mail usage al working fine. i have now set up on another server all the websites that im hosting. i have now set up a new free webmail service for anyone to register/login & use. this is also on the wesite server.i now want both these to run together both receiving internet email is it possible?
both have their own int ip address. i am using a router as well. is it to do with ports routing which mail to which mail server- or am i asking the impossible?
or can i have the exchange server forward all the webmail domain email to the server hosting the webmail sevice
ANYONE HELP- OR ADVISE WOULD BE GREAT.

Sounds like you need to read the patterns & practices series "Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Hosting Series" volumes 1 and 2 by Microsoft Press. Technically what you are asking is definitely possible, what I question is economics of the free webmail when you factor in the licensing costs of Exchange. Each mailbox is going to require an Exchange CAL, and with the ability of users to sign themselves up, that could put you in the red really fast.

thanks for your reply
if it is possible to connect both a exchange server and my webmail server at the same location, any hint to what i would need to do? as in email coming at one point, then routing mail to either exchange mail or the webmail. i know it does sound a bit strange not running one of the two services, but it does come down to flexability of having both. exchange is big n powerful- the webmail is simple and basic

It's the classic FE/BE design. Install exchange on the webserver, in ESM check the box to make it a front end server [in E2K requires enterprise version, E2K3 can be standard], and dismount your pub.
