Looking for a light weight solution for me to be able to search my exchange 2003 to produce reports like

show me all emails from *@hotmail.com

I have tried using the message tracking centre, but I cannot get wildcard to work in the sender field.

Also, FYG , I don’t think SMTP logging is enabled on my exchange

Anyone have any experience with this scenario?

Had a quick look MessageStats , but looks complicated to install

Thanks

MessageStats isn't that complicated really. You can have it installed and gathering data within about 30 minutes.

Ain't cheap though since its priced on a per mailbox basis.

Promodag is pretty good and priced on a per server basis but it is a bit harder to use than MessageStats. Not as pretty to look at and hard to set up automated reports for non-admins to look at. MessageStats they can basically be allowed to run their own queries, Promodag you have to do it for them.

You know, the message tracking logs are text files, tab delimited text files. Each column is a field. You could:

1. Use a tool like grep or even the dos commands (for and find) in a batch file.
2. Import them into excel and use excel search functions
3. Use the logparser utility.

Please can you advise where the tracking logs are stored?

Thanks

If you have set them up they are in the \\servername\servername.log share.

That's the easiest way to get to them from another system.
