Exchange Directory Service

Everytime I start the directory service I get two errors.
event id 0 MSExchangeDS (45) -255 and event id 1002 the microsoft exchange server database (edb) could not be initialized and returned error -255. unrecoverable error, the directory can't continue. All the other Exchange services will not start.

Any ideas?
