Exchange crash notifier

New to this so bear with me. All of our server crash notification stuff... solarwinds...works great but what if the exchange server is the one crashing. Besides the phones ringing off the hook, is anyone using any other means of notification on crash? Thanks

Haven't used Exchange 5.5 in a while, but simply monitoring the Application Event Log for Exchange warnings and or errors doesn't hurt, just on a weekly basis or so.
