I have a member server (not a dc) running exchange 2000. There is also a DC on the lan running DNS.

When I look in event viewer on the Exchng server (es) I get event ID's 2064 (all domain controllers are in use or not responding) and 1005 (the specified domain either doesn't exist or cannot be contacted).

When I first boot up ES I get "at least 1 service failed to start.."

I have specified the DC & the local machine as dns servers in the ip properties on the ES.

I installed dns on the DC & es & created a zone.

we had the same problems.

It was due to services not starting in a timely fashion.

Meaning, they are not starting correctly when the server boots up and you get a service not started error.

We pin pointed the behaviour to be network card driver related, and up dated to the latest. We found that at the DMZ switch that an amber light would show for a period of time then go green. After we replaced the drivers all seemed fine.

To test if it is the drivers, set your network card speed to 100Mbps and then reboot the server, does this give the service error? if it does then update your drivers. you can then set it back to auto neg after all that.

PS. We must have spent about 2 months, and 5 engineer call outs to fix this problem.
