Currently i have installed ArcserveIT Advanced 2000, when i run a Exchange job and backup the Information Store, i am getting very slow throughput. I have 2 exchange servers residing on the same subnet, one gets throughput of 600mb or higher, whereas the other one gets 140-160mb at max. Any information is thanked for gratefully on what anyone may think it is.

Sounds like the 600mb/min is a local backup, while the ~150mb/min is a network backup. Is this true.

TB,

check the integrity of your database....

if you have any AV softwares running on the excahnge server, set it scan incoming files only...

The backups are both network backups, running through the backup agent.

We have done the integrity check on both servers, also the exchange boxes run Antigen, which is an exchange AV program, it has a setting which allows fast backup, which basically means that if a backup software accesses the files then the are not scanned outbound.

I thank you for your help and look forward to hearing from you.

How fast is the normal file baclup on this Exchange server..
coz we need to ensure the network isnt a problem..

you might wanna run a defrag of the exchange IS just to get rid of the white spaces as these might pose a problem too.

anything funny about this exchange server worth mentioning??

cheers

The normal file backup of this server runs at about 460mb or higher, leading me to believe that it is a Exchange issue. I have set my my links to 100MB Full Duplex on both sides and around the network. I also updated to a driver that Dell had stating that the driver by Adaptec is designed for Hard Drives, the driver from dell was designed to talk to tape devices.

I just found out that the latest client doesnt mean its the best one. I downgraded to Build 323 Client 7.0 for Exchange and it gave me the throughput i was looking for. Thanks for your help though.
