We just installed a new Exchange 2000 Server and are using BE 8.6. The backup of the information store is working fine, however the root c: has a strange problem. My Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday jobs were all successfull, but the the number and size of files change drastically. The jobs all use the same selection list so there is nothing that isn't checked between the days. Here is a breakdown.

This is \\emailserver\c$

Monday:
29900 Files, 1362 Folders, 14.8GB
Tuesday:
28068 Files, 1358 Folders, 4.4GB
Wednesday:
18279 Files, 980 Folders, 3.9GB

Anyone have any ideas? I also checked the files that it skipped and the main ones (priv1, pub1, etc) are always skipped, which is normal.

Thanks!

First thing that comes to mind.

There's an option in Backup Exec to just backup those files that have changed (the term might be modified).

Is it possible that you have that option enabled and that is why you aren't seeing all files backed up - they all haven't had changes made to them?

The backups are all Full (reset archive bit) jobs everyday. I don't do any incremental or differential, although my logs sure look like I do :)

What do you mean by:

I don't do any incremental or differential, although my logs sure look like I do

I was saying that my backup log files for the jobs I
described above look like I'm doing incremental backups.

They start out large (full backup) and then drop in size (incremental).

I don't think I want to know how you interpreted that :->

I was looking at the possibility that a check box/drop down menu somewhere got the wrong input and that you were actually doing diff or incremental backups when you thought you were doing full backups.
