Exchange backup problems error 174

Ok i am having a problem that is isolated to our exchange servers only.

i get the following message under detailed status in the active job window..
Error bptm(pid=30640 write of 131072 bytes indicated on 131072 bytes written

The job will literally hang and never error out. If i click cancel job then i get the following error:

6/16/2005 7:04:19 AM - end writing; write time: 16:56:23
media manager - system error occurred(174)
6/16/2005 7:04:20 AM - Error bpsched(pid=2932) backup of client txhous10msx23 exited with status 174 (media manager - system error occurred)

these are exchange 2003 server on win2k3 servers.. i have seen this problem for about a month now but nothing has changed from a configuration stand point.

I get the same error and problem but on Lotus Notes servers when the Notes service is down so the db agent can not connect. If you are using the db agent make sure that exchange is up and running when you try to run the backup.
