Exchange Backup Failed - Error: I/O Bus Was Reset?

I have a backup job running on BE 8.6 doing a full backup of the local machine (Exchange Server 2000).

For the last two nights, when it comes to verify the

\\SERVER\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group

it generates the following,

"Storage device "DEll 1" reported an error on a request to read data from media.

Error reported:

The I/O bus was reset."

this is failing the whole job which completes fine apart from this.

Has anyone experienced this before? Does the tape drive need replacing?
