I sent the detail below to veritas but figured it was probably more worthwhile posting here for a quicker response and real world experinence :)

Windows 2000 Sp2
Exchange 5.5 Advanced Ed
Quantum External Tape device
Dell Poweredge 4400
Veritas Backup 8.x - installed as noted in control panel

I am receiving the following error in the log of a backup, I have edited to leave the key data:

Backup of "D: Exchange"
The item \exchsrvr\DSADATA\dir.edb in use - skipped.
The item \exchsrvr\imcdata\queue.dat in use - skipped.
The item \exchsrvr\MDBDATA\PRIV.EDB in use - skipped.
The item \exchsrvr\MDBDATA\PUB.EDB in use - skipped.

Searching the knowledge base I am afraid proved fruitless so searching google.com with the query pub.edb found the following article -TechNote ID 207980 - on the veritas site :)

Reading the Technote describes my problem entirely but would only appear to be relevant upto version 8.5 I am using version 8.6 does the same still apply. I am certain I installed the Microsoft Agent on installing Veritas but it is not noted in the control panel, only the info

Veritas Backup 8.x

I have reinstalled the Exchange agent again without the need to reboot and no error suggesting it was already installed, does this mean it was not installed because if it had been I would have been notified?

Regards
Guy

PS Could you please tell me where veritas tech support team search because the serch engine on the site is useless. Is there a way to search the technotes/ a listing of technotes. I am sure this did exist last year?

** If I find out where veritas search I let you all know.

Cheers
Guy

Just to let anyone who is interested know.

When backing up the Exchange box you DO NOT back up any of the

pub.edb
priv.edb
edb.log

Veritas assure me that you simply back up the Directory Store and Information Store, along with all mailboxes, this provides a full backup of the system, not too sure myself. I'll know after a test restore.

See article

In relation to the article aboce Veritas tell me to not back up any of these files but the Directory, Info and mailboxes as stated.

Have a great w/e
