I'm working on a team to develop the plan and new Ex2k infrastructure for our Enterprise and I have a couple of feasibility questions.
Our Exchange 5.5 environment stretches coast-to-coast, but is all connected via reliable/high-speed links. It seems that the most robust, tolerant configuration would be a pure mesh with a single Admin Group / Routing Group and SMTP connectors at geographically dispersed locations, but what am I missing? The organization is comprised of several divisions or companies that are part of the top level company (where I do my voodoo). The only downside (THAT I SEE) is what-if.... a MAPI worm virus actually does make it to a users desktop and get opened? We no longer have bridgehead servers and connectors that we can stop to quarantine the spread of the worm. Another possible topology we're considering to combat that threat is two Routing Groups: one with only SMTP connectors and the other with all other Exchange servers. Sure, we could stay with the current Hub and Spoke configuration that we have now, but where is the adventure in that?
Any insights greatly appreciated.
