Exchange 5.5 to 2000 Mailbox moving question

I am having a problem. I need to move my mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to 2000. The Exchange 2000 server is on a different domain than the 5.5 server. Is there a way to export the mail out of the 5.5, then import into the 2000. I have tried the EXMERGE command, but have manged to corrupt the Information Store, both times I have tried to do it. Does anyone have any other methods? Any help provided would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had the same problem when i upgraded to exchange 2k. I built the new server, created the same organization, and then used exchange 2000 migrations tool to migrate the mail box's to the new server. This worked fine for me. Hope this helps
