Exchange 5.5 sp3 running on NT 4.0

Exchange 5.5 sp3 running on NT 4.0 sp6 --

we are using Veritas backup Exec 8.6 & this might be related to its OPEN FILE OPTION --

INTERMITTENTLY this "Otman4" stuff kills the Exchange server during the night

I come in and Email is down until the exchange 5.5 server is rebooted

same backup job runs night after night -- only every 3rd or 4th night does this happen

but it's been every 3rd or 4th night for a month and there's gun at our heads about email going down

Help.

I have put this in both the EXCHANGE and the VERITAS forums, hopin someone somewhere will know sumpn about it

Make that sp6a for NT 4.0

and

sp4 for Exchange 5.5

Choose to not backup open files and ensure you are using the exchange agent. Make sure your backup selections exclude the mdbdata directory or you'll be backing up the physical exchange database as well as dipping into it and backing up the mailboxes...

I use the open file option and had the same kind of problem due to the default option backup openfiles "with a lock" this option locks the open file and crashes databases (my experience is for Oracle database) . I changed the option to "without a lock" and everything is now working well.
