Exchange 5.5 probing UDP Ports

Hi,

Does anyone know why Exchange would need to run a UDP port probe. I work for a government institution where the Exchange Server (still NT) is constantly sending out UDP Port probes. These probes are generating lots of unnecesary traffic and before I go up to talk to the admin about it I would welcome any of your advise/suggestions as to why the exchange server needs to do so or it does not need it. Also, any advise on how to turn it off would be greatly appreciated.
