Exchange 5.5 Not Authenicating

I have an Exchanger Server in Long Beach that asks for authenication and denies users in remote sites. I can ping the server and authenicate to the domain of the server. Normally authenication is done automatically with the domain SID.

has there been any changing of passwords? check the services for passwords.
