Exchange 5.5 Information service Stops for no reason?

Why does my Information service stops working for no apparent reason, stacking up a load of messages in the MTA Queue?. It does not even give an error message. After I stop and restart it then starts up again and clears its way through the queue. Most of the messages it stacks up seem to be repolication messages from Directory service.

can anyone help- I have spent hours and hours and hours and hours on it and my sanity is leaving me!!
