Is there a way in exchange 5.5 to forward all mail to an external address?

You can forward all mail for one mailbox. Is that what you want to do? If so it is under the Delivery Options tab for each mailbox in Exchange Administrator. You may have to create a Custom Recipient if you can't find the email address in the GAL. Let us know.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

I'm trying to do the same thing and am confused how to create a custom recipient outside the domain. Could you help?

No you make the custom recipient inside your domain but use an outside email address instead of a domain address. Then you use delivery options tab and point it to the custom recipient.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

It's a good idea to create a new Recipients Container for all your CRs (call it comething like External Recipients), so you can find them easily when you need to add, delete or mod them.

If you are going to just use them to forward email under the "Delivery Option" tab then after you add them to that tab you can just set it up as a hidden recipient so you don't have to look at the account anymore.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.
