Hi Folks,

I'm approaching the 16 gig limit on my exchange server 5.5 , and what I'd like to do is somehow remove sent items from people's mailboxes that are older than 6 months.

Is there an updated "Clean Mailbox" utility that will allow me to do this?

Clients are Outlook 2000/2003 running on Windows 2000

Thanks

Mailbox Manager needs installing and configuring before it will work for you. And there may be some issues with it running against the latest 5.5 hotfixes/security patches, some of my clients have reported problems in this area.

Exchange Admin has a similar Clean Mailbox tool built right into it, on the Tools menu. That will do similar, although in real time rather than schedulable. But you can use it immediately.

You should also read faq10-6005 - understanding single instance storage, db whitespace, and deleted item retention are all key to resolving this successfully.

Hi Folks, Thanks for your quick replies.

Will either of these tools help clean out "Sent Items" of each mailbox? It's that folder I'm particularly interested in.

Thanks

Mailbox Manager can be targeted to specific folders, so yes; if you can get it working correctly.

Test and test again before unleashing it on your full mailbox list...

Yes, the link I provided had instructions for installing. :)

Thanks folks, that helps a lot.

One other small point, does deleted items count as part of the edb? Say if some folk deleted items and the retention time is 7 days.
