We recently have these errors popping up and causing sending and receiving to be irregular.

They are as follows:
Outlook Express
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.inphaseonline.com', Server: 'mail.inphaseonline.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Outlook
Task 'mail.inphaseonline.com - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Most errors I found had to do with Norton Anti-virus but we use PC Cillan. I have done the following based on research:

* I've had this problem a few times and I'm not exactly sure why it happens. However, if you do this, it should cure the problem:

1. Go into the setting of your email accounts.

2. For incoming mail server, Outlook changes this to localhost and appends the server name to the user.
eg. User.name/pop.mailserver.com

Change the user to just the user name (eg. User.name)
Instead of localhost in the incoming mail server field, delete that and put your mail server name. (eg. pop.mailserver.com)

3. Press finish and everything should work again!

*************************
Turned off incoming e-mail virus scan.

***********************
simply add a period (dot) to the end of your mail server names in your account settings:
e.g. change mail.server.com to mail.server.com.

I have gone through 4-5 Send / Recieve cycles now after doing this and all seems to be working normal now (touch wood!)when I was getting errors regulalry.
******************
Changed from localhost to myserver.myplace.com format of incoming server.
************

None of these worked. Any other ideas. A lot of people have these errors and they seem irratic. Anyone with other ideas?

Thanks.

For those of you who are looking to resolve this problem, double check if you have some type of mail virus scanning tool or accelerated email download tool or spam filter tool.

These tools essentially set themselves to download the email and become a router for your email client (i.e. localhost).
