Exchange 5.5 and Mixed mode AD

OK.

I realize that there is a AD connector for Exhchange 5.5 in a AD environment.

But Can I just upgrade my PDC to a mixed mode AD environment without any playing around with Exchange 5.5 ?
I am hoping the answer is yes.

Then my plan was to do the same with my BDC and just do a inplace upgrade of Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000.

Is what I say totally wrong ?
