Exchange 2K slow performance

I am having an issue with exchange. For some reason all of a sudden messages sit in the outbox for a couple of seconds before sending. This is all in house mail and I've never had this problem before. The event log doesn't have any out of the ordinary events. The server is not bogged at all (CPU or Memory). What can I do to better its performance? The Server its running on is also a DC so I haven't enable the /3GB switch even though it has 2 Gigs of ram. Any suggestions on what I can do to speed her up?

Hi,

You might want to check the smtp queue in exchange to see if its congested.
