I am trying to find a solution to a problem being caused by reverse dns lookups on smtp mail.

Enivronment - Exchange 2k sp4 active /passive cluster
Cisco PIX firewall w/mailguard disabled and static route defined between public and cluster IP address.

test telnet sessions to port 25 of a remote mail system from my active system show that I am advertising the global nat'd IP of the firewall. How can I fix this? I am losing sleep on this one.

Thanks in advance,
ken

Have you created a reverse mx record for each node?

What is the Ip address of the virtual SMTP server?

What are your static commands in the PIX?

Personally, I wouldn't use the cluster for the outbound SMTP mail server. I would use your other machine (with Exchange 2000 standard installed on it) and setup it up to do all the outbound SMTP traffic. It tends to be easier to troubleshoot and define in your firewall. In fact, I would use it for all inbound and outbound messages and leave the SMTP virtual server on the cluster for Intersite site communications.

It is what it is!!
