Exchange 2013 User can't access Public Folder on Exchange 2007

I have recently deployed Exchange 2013 within my domain and moved over my account to DB store on exchange 2013. Outlook loads up fine but when I navigate to Public Folders I get the error below.
"Cannot expand the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems of the Exchange server is down for maintenance

yes, that's right. Exchange 2013 mailboxes cannot access legacy public folders.
