Hi,
A company has an SBS08 server the exchange part is not being used/not running as their email is currently hosted off site.

They have now decided that they want a hosted exchange 2010 server as a member of their domain (As opposed to using the exchange in SBS)

Are there any pitfalls to this ? Anyone ever done it ?

Thanks in advance

They can do this, but they can't expect user creation to automatically and properly create mailboxes via the SBS wizard. I have migrated SBS 2008 orgs to Exchange 2010 without retiring the original SBS 2008 server, and it's doable. You resolve the problems as they come up. One problem will be that the hosted Exchange server will be in a different Exchange org than exists in the SBS AD. Will the hosted server actually be joined to their domain and then installed with Exchange after being domain-joined? Can Exchange 2010 be added as an expansion of the existing Exchange org? If so, that's a lot more straightforward and the path is smoother.

Hi, Thank you for the reply, Ok so this is done... However it was made more complicated due to them having AD sites implemented.

Schema/Fismo etc had to be transferred to their hosted DC before I could even install Exchange 2010

The one unfortunate thing is that I cannot change the default recipient policy as legacy servers exist, whilst it's a pain in the neck it's manageable.

Thank you for your advice.
