i'm new to exchage 2k3 server and i want to ask a couple of questions.
1. does exch-2k3 has to be installed on a domain controller or can it be installed in a member server
2. when installing exch-2k3 does it have to be the same name as the name of the server where you are inastalling it
or it can be any name that you want to assign to it, for
example my server name is NY1 does exchange has to be the same as well when it prompts me to give a name.

please any help is much appreciated.

#1: no. From a security and performance standpoint you probably want to keep these seperate

#2: Im assuing you mean the servername in SMTP mail. This is defined in the Virtual SMTP server. ie. Physicalname is "SERVER01", SMTP name is "mail1.domain.com
