I am currently running Exchange 2003 with approximately 45 users. I have 4 drives set up on it. System (c) Paging (e) Programs (f) and Exchange Data (g)
For some reason the C drive will start with about 2GB free, and then slowly start running out of free space. Within about an hour, the free space will be down to 0. I will reboot, and the free space will start back out at about 2GB, and begin the countdown again. Anyone have any ideas where I should start looking?

Are you sure you dont have a page file still on the C drive at all?

If you dont then it could be something like hibernation has been turn on for some strange reason casuing it to eat up space.

Best bet is to trying at work out what folder is taking up space when the server starts getting full. Look at the drive when 1st booted up then compared it to when its full.

Hibernation is turned off, and I've monitored the drive as much as I could to see where the free space is going. I tell at all where it's going. I have noticed that the most recent thing it will do is get down to about 35MB and then jump back up to about 200MB free, quickly count down to the 35 (or somewhere around there) and jump back up to 200. This cycle takes about 30 seconds.

Do you have any sort of logging going on or exchange logs on the C drive?

Is there anything coming up in the event log about the low disk space or any application errors?

Also if you havent already make sure you turned on show all filers and folders and also so you can see hidden operating files.

It looks like the System Volume Information directory has another directory called catalog.wci This particular folder seems to be the one fluctuating. I understand it has to do with the IIS, but I'm not sure what I should do with it.

Thats the indexing service creating the file(s), if you dont need it running then stop the service and set it to disable or manual. You might still have the catalog files so you can try rebooting to clear them or manaul delete them via the indexing service mmc snapin.

Beautiful! I stopped the index service and got rid of the catalog files. No more fluctuations. THANK YOU! This was a major headache for me. I certainly appreciate it.
