Hello to all - my exchange server just stopped receiving email.

All of the services are running.
Outlook clients can connect to server fine.
New external email never comes in.
Internal email arrives fine.
There are no error messages in the event viewer
The mail store is mounted

I CAN telnet to both port 110 & 25 from the internet.

I don't even know where to start looking on this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? This is driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance.

Guy

I would check to make sure your MX record is live on the Internet.

from a command prompt type the following:
c:\nslookup <enter>
> set q=MX <enter>
> yourpublicdomain.com <enter>
Output should look something like...
mail.yourpublicdomain.com MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = mail.yourpublicdomain.com internet address = 192.168.0.1 (some IP address)

If the MX record is not pointing to an address or worse another address, fix the record in DNS. If using a hosting company for external DNS, call them right away to find out what the issue is.

RESOLVED.

Keep the execs out of the server room.
Anonymous access to SMTP had been turned off.
