Exchange 2003 - recover deleted items

Hi

I have a customer who is trying to recover a number of deleted items from Outlook 2003. Unfortunately these emails where deleted over one month ago (the retention period is set at 30 days). We do not currently undertake brick level backups.
Does anyone know how these can be recovered these deleted items or know of any utility that can perform a recovery?

Create a Recovery Storage Group, and restore an old store backup to it. This stuff is well documented on TechNet and elsewhere.
