Exchange 2000 will not update Schema Master

Are there any limitations on Exchange 2000 evaluation copy?
I ask this because I am having a problem installing Exchange on a non schema master DC. This is currently a test lab environment. When I create the first DC in the forest and then install Exchange 2000 on it, Exchange works fine. That is I can use Outlook from a W2K Professional or use OWA. We plan to purchase Exchange 2000 after building a forest/domain production system. Obviously Exchange 2000 will not be placed on the schema master (PDC-emulator), etc.
So for now, I rebuild my forest with two DCs off a local switch. The 1st DC is the schema master with
Integrated DSN, and DSN is setup correctly. I then add a 2nd DC plus NNTP. I then run /forestprep and /domainprep using the Exchange evaluation copy CD. No error messages are apparent. I wait quite awhile and even reboot both DCs. Then I run setup again to install Exchange 2000. It runs fine.
But the results are not so good. When I display the Properties for any USERID (for instance Administrator)
I see the Exchange TABs on the DC that I installed Exchange on but not on the other DC (the schema master). When I add a new User on the Exchange DC the check box for "Create an Exchange Mailbox" appears; not so on the schema master DC.

I check the Directory Services event logs on both machines. On the schema master I see 'Index needed for ... error code 1404 ...'
Later the index is created. This occurs for 20 indexes. That all seems normal except in the middle there is one event for
KCC - The replication topology update task terminated abnormally with code e0010001. Then the last 4 of the 20 index entries appear. On the Exchange DC there are many ERROR entries of the form:
"Class identifier nnnnnnnnnn (class name cccccccccccccccccccccccc) has an invalid superclass NNNNNN. Inheritance ignored"

When I ran the /ForestPrep I noted many SEND/Receives detected from the adapter statistics window.
I am running W2K Adv Server SP2 on both DCs. I installed Exchange SP2 post installation.
I have tried this several times, each time I had the re-partition each DC and install W2K Adv server etc. again before I could perform the Exchange 2000 install.

I am installing under Userid Administrator as member of the groups: Administrators, Domain Admins, Domain Users, Enterprise Admins, Group Policy Creator Owners, and Schema Admins.

Is it possible that the Exchange 2000 evaluation copy has left out code to complete the schema update for what ever
reason? Please let me know.

Thanks
James

You will not see the extra tabs for Exchange services on any machine except for the Exchange server. This is regardless of whether or not it is a DC (much less schema master), and is by design. We have Ex2k on a Win2k server, and 2 separate DCs. Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snapin that appears on the Ex2k box after install is the only instance that has the extra tabs. These extra tabs do not appear on the two DCs.

So you're actually doing the install correctly, and it seems to be doing what it is supposed to do.

You can install just the Admin Tool - Exchange System Manager on the other DC and then you will have the tabs too. Dan
