I'm working on a server that was running NT 4.0 Server with exchange 5.5, but it was formatted with only the public and private edb files being backed up. The server was then upgraded to Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000. Is there any way I can get exchange to mount the old store so that I can get to the data? Thanks.

The EDB files are for exchange 5.5 and they won't work under Exchange 2000.

i think the best way would be to create a new Exchange 5.5 server drop in you edb files. Then you need to run isinteg -patch. Then you can start the services.

You then need to open up Exchange admin and click the server. Go to properties, click advanced tab and fix inconcistencies.

You will then be able to connect outlook to the server and get at the mailboxes. Export to .pst. Connect to exchange 2000 as user and import .pst.

This is classed as a single mailbox restore. The best thing about this is that machine name/organisation and site name do no have to match.I had to do one a while back so forgive me if my instructions aren't precise. When i did this i couldn't recover the public folders. I invested in a tool that extracts data from raw EDB files.

Hope this helps some

Thanks alot i'll give it a wirl this weekend and let you know how it goes.

Not true.

Install Exchange 2000 with same Org and Admin Group. Then you can usually drop them in and be upgraded. Sometimes you have to run eseutil /p /createstm but it is a good chance it will start with no problems. Dan
