Hi everybody,
running Exchange 2000. Had problem with outgoing email messages getting stuck in the queues, so I started using smarthost which has resolved that problem. Didn't cure the problem with incoming messages though:
our ISP has set the secondary MX record to point to their servers as a backup channel, and most of our email messages are going through this to get to us. They end up getting delayed anywhere from a couple of mins to around a day though. I've been told it could be a DNS problem, but I'm not sure what to go about checking. The backup server tries to send every 15mins until it gets through.
I've connected to our server using telnet to port 25. Going through the steps to send an email that way, I can't always get the "sender OK" message when I type in "mail from: name:domain.com" . Sometimes I get OK, other times I get
"501 5.5.4 Invalid Address"
I'm not sure what this all means, but I really need help.
Help!
