Exchange 2000 IM Clients Appearing Offline

I installed Exchange 2000 (SP3) IM last week as a
departmental trial. Since installation at least 2 of the
10 users configured are continually switching to "Appear
Offline." The users are not manually switching it and
they are constantly using their computers (not a timeout).

Has anyone else seen this? If so, what is the fix as I
cannot find anything in the KB.
