Exchange 2000 Down

I manage a Exchange server 2000 environment. Currently my users are unable to rec. email. I've restarted the server, and restarting the Exchange Services ( MTA and the Information store refuse to restart). MTA Check produces the following:

Error in Queue-Desc-Object (ID 1) initialization.

Database contains serious errors and cannot be automatically repaired.

The eventid 15 looks like a disk has failed - is that right?
