Hi all,

I haven't much experience in Excel 2010, or any other Excel products to be honest.

A teacher has asked me if I could generate another column with the following info from other colums.

in 2 columns we have first name and the 2nd column we have the surname. We need a 3rd column to have gathered the in from the 2 columns and generate this surname first initial e.g. joe bloggs would be: bloggsj.

It for some School software, username field basically.

Kind regards,
James

Assuming your first names and second names are in columns A & B you can use a formula of the form:

=B1&LEFT(A1,1)

Adjust the references to A1 and B1 to match the first cells containing your names.

This formula can them be copied down the column.

Cheers

1726,
