hi
i think i'm going mad!
i've just set up a new home pc with windows7 pro (64bit)
having loaded office 2003 i then copied my 'old' excel11.xlb file over to the new machine.
when i open it it retains the customisation i'm used to but after closing it and opening excel from the programs menu it reverts to the default commandbars etc.

if i cusomise the default and open xl again the new settings are retained but still not my xlb file settings. opening the .xlb file again just shows the customisation i'm used to.

searching for *.xlb on the primary drive only returns the file i copied over from my old pc. removing it returns no search results

am i missing something really simple here? did win7 somehow do away with .xlb files and store that data elsewhere?

seems there may be an issue with windows 7 importing existing .xlb files. There seems to be 2 fixes that i see either delete and recreate the xlb under windows 7 or try a rename and the toolbar should show up in the addins. this would indicate to me a registry issue with Win7

hi and thanks for the input.

thought i would share this though as i'd not come across it before. i was looking for a way to transfer outlook account settings (logons etc) and discovered this which also fixed my xl settings!

Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools
select Save My settings Wizard and save the file somewhere useful (mine was less than 1mb so memory stick would do the job)

follow the same menu path as above and select to install settings at the appropriate place in the wizard!
