Some user or ghost must have made changes to the way excel displays a workbook on a particular workstation. Any workbook that is opened on this machine has such small worksheet tabs that they are both hard to see and hard to read the worksheet title. The same workbook on other workstations looks normal. I have found no way to alter this and would appreciate any help.

excel worksheet tab size

It was the first thing I looked at. Everything looks fine on the desktop and display properties. Nothing else seems affected except the sheet tab size on excel, so my beleif is that it is some setting, registry key, or corruption to some excel related file. All fonts are installed and OK. I could probably right things with a reinstall but it would be nice to sort out and may benefit others as well.

I know you said you looked at the "appearance" properties and everything looked ok, but this is something that is not real obvious. The tabs are located on the scrollbar. On the "appearance" tab, in the "item" window, select "scrollbar" and see what it is set to. If the number is small (i.e. 8 or so) then the scrollbars will be very narrow. This will also affect the tab size since the tabs are actually part of the scrollbar. Set the size to about 16 or so, click on "apply", and see if this makes a difference. Note that this is a global change and will affect all of your applications.
Otherwise, see if the user has some unusual "theme" selected. If so, try selecting "windows standard" and see if this makes a difference.
