I'd like to put a "Draft - For Comment" watermark on my spreadsheets, and thought I'd found the answer in thread68-1187451.

That recommends inserting a picture in the centre header, but I don't have the option to 'Insert Picture' in my Header/Footer dialog (XL2K) - Help!

What about putting WordArt on your sheet and changing the Fill to transparent?

Cheers, Glenn.

Did you hear about the literalist show-jumper? He broke his nose jumping against the clock.

Hi Glenn, thanks for that, but I'd tried that before, and it made the file HUUUUUGE!

But you jogged my memory enough for me to seek out (my own)
thread68-1014373 - [blush]

Skip's idea to convert it to a jpeg works - up to a point. Without the watermark, the file is 317Kb. Add a jpeg watermark, and it goes up to 588Kb...Darn!

588Kb .... that's luxury! The guys here are working with 10 to 20 Meg files, and complaining that things are "a bit slow".

Cheers, Glenn.

Type your text in a cell. Change the font colour to grey.
Then copy this as a picture using this technique:

Select the cell,
Alt-Shft E,
C
OK

Go to the sheet wherte you want the watermark.
Crtl-v to paste
You can then move it, rotate it (exel 2003) re-size it etc.

For a full explanation of that hidden feature: faq68-1161 - thanks Dale!

Thanks Gav (and Dale) [2thumbsup] [medal]

There is another way to get the Copy Picture option, and that is to hold down Shift while clicking on the Edit Menu button. Does the same as Alt-Shift E in Dale's FAQ.

Doing this made my workbook bloat from 317Kb to...318Kb Result!

Have a STAR!
