Hi guys,
I've been asked to try and do a waterfall graph using a range of data and it's proving to be a pain to figure out how to do it.

A waterfall graph uses a series of data in a bar chart type format where the bottom of the second bar starts at the finishing point of the first.

For example if the profit (in units) for a company over the year are:

Jan 50
Feb 30
Mar -40
Apr 90

then the bar for Jan ranges from 0-50, Feb from 50-80, Mar from 80-40, Apr from 40-130 and so on. I am pretty sure it can be done in Excel, but I can't get there.

Can anyone help?

Kind regards,
Mooski

Mooski,

I've seen this in one forum or another before. Try this thread and let me know if it's what your looking for:

Fred,
Yeah I saw that thread myself, but it wasn't too useful. I've looked on the Microsft forums and found a really useful link to a different website that showed how to do it. Essentially you have to use a stacked bar chart and hide parts of the stacks that are used to calculate the starting positions of the floating bar bit.

I've not explained it very well, I know and I'm not sure if I can post a link here to a different site, so if I'm breaking the rules, I apologise in advance.

Thanks,
Mooski
