In VBA under tools, options, Docking tab, I have docking enabled. However in the IDE the windows dock all stacked horizontally, like this:

I would like to choose where the windows dock, like this (from my other machine):

Does anyone know why this is so different on 2 different machines?

It's the same on all machines (AFAIK) but you have to be careful where you drop them when you click and drag - a bit of experimentation should let you see what happens. A heavy outline when dragging indicates where the window will dropped as a floating window. A fine outline indicates where it will be docked, and what shape it will be be.

Enjoy,
Tony

I can move and resize the windows, but I can only get them to dock as my first image shows, stacked vertically. Is there a registry key or value that holds this info? This is driving me nuts

I am not aware of any setting anywhere that forces what you have.

What happens when you click and drag, say, the project window to the left hand side and drop it when the outline is thin and the rectangle vertical with its left side off the screen? Does it spring back to where it was and remain horizontally docked?

Enjoy,
Tony

VBA windows are the same for all office applications. Settings are stored in registry (for current user, Software\Microsoft\VBA\...). It's important to have one VBE IDE opened while customising, as last closed instance settings are stored. This link may be helpful:
