Hi,

On one user's computer, double clicking an .xls file within W.Explorer makes Excel open up, but with an error message that it cannot find the file named.

The only way to open an .xls file is to open Excel 97 first, and then browse to the file.

What's the fix? Help! Microsoft's page offers no help.

From "My Computer" select View>Options from the menu
Select "File Types"
Scroll down to find MS Excel Worksheet (extension = xls)
Select EDIT
Select the OPEN action and EDIT

You should have something like
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\excel.exe" "%1"

Its the "%1" that will open the selected file
