Could anyone tell me if there is a setting somewhere that prevents you from either copying cell formulae or pasting them into a different workbook? I have a spreadsheet that I am rebuilding, and I'm able to cut and paste all the formatting and content but none of the formulae. All I get for a cell containing a formula is the value of the solution. I have tried, sucessfully on two brand new workbooks to copy a formula over, its just this existing spreadsheet, with gazillions of formulae that is being obstinate.

Many Thanks

Are both workbooks open in the same session of excel?

If so, copy yhe formula out of the formula bar in one and paste it into the formula bar in the other - that should get around any settings issues...

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

Hi Geoff

Yes, both are open in the same session, but as I have loads of formulae to copy across, I was hoping there might have been a more, errr, global solution - if you see what I mean!

I tried your idea, and got the circular reference error message. Does that throw anymore light on it?

Ahh
Update..... I'm sorry, I think I fell fowl of what 'same session ' means. I think I do have two sessions open - ie two separate spreadsheets open with two separate icons on the task bar. Usually this is the way I want them to be, but this time....! How can you have both spreadsheets under one icon - ie to toggle between then via Window and selecting the sheet name from the list.

In the Window Menu item, you'll find a list of all the workbooks in that instance of Excel.

Skip,

for a NUANCE![tongue]

The default behavior when you double click an excel file (or right click > open) is to open both in the open session.

But if yours doesn't do that, you can go to File > Open from within an open session and browse to the second spreadsheet.
