When the user opens Excel 2000, the application seems to want to open a word document, residing in My Documents, it then produces prompts, suggesting the file format is not supported, and then open the document up, it then takes the user three times to close the opened excel spredsheet. Once this has been done, Excel can be used in the normal way. The user has deleted the word document, but excel still insists on opening it. Anybody any idea as to what is happening, and what is the fix, any help would be most appreciated. Patient

Tools / Options / General Tab / Clear the boc that says either 'At startup, open all files in', OR 'Alternate startup path'

or.....in Windows Explorer under Tools, Folders Options, File Types tab, the XLS extenision is probably associated with doc files.

... or you can go to start/search/files or folder and search for XLSTART and make sure that there are no word docs or shortcuts to word docs in there.
